The Battle of Gettysburg was the
largest battle in the American Civil
War. Over the course of three short
days there were 45,000 casualties
and 5000 horses perished. This re-enactment
is one of the largest in the US
- over 20,000 people actively participate,
while tens of thousands watch.
Gettysburg
Gettysburg is most famous for being
the site of the bloodiest battle
in the American Civil War, a battle
widely seen as the turning point
in the campaign. The battlefield
site is now a National Military
Park, and the town itself is also
worth a visit. Founded in 1786,
it has a number of historic buildings,
including the Dobbin House Tavern,
which, having been built in 1776,
predates even the town itself.
